Newcastle United suffered relegation from the Premier League.

The 2015/16 Premier League season proved to be a disastrous one for Newcastle United as they were relegated to the Championship.
There had been increased optimism at the club after a summer transfer window saw them bring several big money signings into the club.
It did not prove to be a strategy that would work for them though as the majority of those signings, aside from Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum, proved to be poor purchases.
A poor start to the campaign set the tone for what was to come, as Newcastle had to wait until the middle of October to secure their first victory, a 6-2 defeat of Norwich City.
Steve McClaren did not manage to finish the season in charge as a result, with the club replacing him in March.
His replacement, Rafa Benitez, led them on a late by ultimately unsuccessful fight against the drop to cap off a disastrous campaign.
