Iain Dowie says he was impressed with Leeds United’s performance against Leicester City.
Leeds United were beaten by Premier League side Leicester City in the Carabao Cup last night, but gave a good account of themselves.
Both teams made changes to the XI’s which won at the weekend, with Leicester’s class telling in the 3-1 win.
Iain Dowie was covering the game for SkySports Soccer Special, and said that he was impressed by Leeds’ performance.
He said: “It was a valiant performance by Leeds. They have been very good. Leicester’s little bit of quality has shown, but Leeds will have a decent season in the Championship.”
Dowie stopped short of tipping them for promotion, but on the basis of last night it was truly hard to assess.
Key players like Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski all sat out, with Leeds focusing on Sheffield United game on Friday night.
Leeds did however give a good account of themselves, showing that they were well coached, and had enough strength in depth to give a Premier League team a good game.
The 3-1 scoreline flattered the Foxes a little, but Leeds did not show enough in the second half from an attacking perspective to suggest they deserved to win.
