Scott McTominay made his first Premier League start for Manchester United last night as the Red Devils beat Bournemouth 1-0.

The breakthrough academy star helped fill the void created by Paul Pogba’s suspension, and put himself in contention to start against West Bromwich Albion again this weekend too.

The 21-year-old completed 91 per cent of his passes, touching the ball 61 times.

His performance was praised by SkySports pundit Alan McInally, who told Soccer Special he was impressed with the midfielder.

He said: “The boy McTominay has got a big future. He didn’t give the ball away too often.”

McTominay won one tackle and made three interceptions as he helped protect the back four alongside the excellent Nemanja Matic.

McInally went onto praise Luke Shaw’s performance, describing the left-back as ‘very good’, as he helped the Red Devils keep a clean sheet upon his recall to the team.

It wasn’t a pretty performance from United, but after the disappointing weekend result against Manchester City, simply getting away with a 1-0 win and seeing Romelu Lukaku get back on the scoresheet was enough to ensure any disquiet remains at a minimum.
