Crystal Palace currently sit just one place outside the relegation zone.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Now at 11:39 am on December 2nd, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp offered his opinion on Crystal Palace’s current defensive struggles, highlighting their disregard to defending the second ball as a major problem.

The Eagles are in the midst of an abysmal run of form that has seen them lose their last six Premier League outings, and caused their plunge to 17th in the league table, separated from 18th placed Hull City by goal difference alone.

Alan Pardew’s men have conceded 26 goals in 13 league outings so far – the joint second worst record in the division.

And Redknapp highlighted an area that Palace seem to have disregarded of late, and how it is affecting their ability to defend set-pieces, when speaking to Sky Sports Now:

“I think they have got so obsessed with defending the first ball – it’s the second ball that’s killing them. The amount of times the ball bounces in the box – you can see last week with Llorente just tapping it in. I think they are probably over-analysing everything, and doing so much work on set pieces.”

These prolonged losing runs are becoming all too familiar for Palace fans, after they had to endure a 14 game winless run during the second half of last season.

They will have to snap out of this run sooner rather than later, otherwise their could be severe problem ahead for the south London outfit.

Alan Pardew is a man under immense pressure, and will be desperately hoping for a win against an in-form Southampton side at Selhurst Park tomorrow.
