Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton has told Give Me Sport that Gareth Southgate has been watching Leeds United winger Jack Harrison closely over the last few weeks – as the left-footed winger continues to shine in the no.11 shirt.
Harrison, 25, got off to a flyer. Three assists and a goal in his first three Premier League games. But in his last three, in which Leeds have picked up one point from a possible nine, Harrison has been unable to add to his stats since then.
An England Under-21 player despite coming through the USA academy system, Harrison remains uncapped forhis country. England take on Italy and Germany at the end of the month in their final UEFA Nations League group games.
Prior to that, Harrison has two more opportunities to catch the eye of Southgate – with games against Nottingham Forest and Manchester United next. Thornton says Southgate is watching Harrison ahead of picking his England side.

“Southgate has watched him quite a few times. I don’t think he’s been too far away from getting into England squads. He fits the bill in terms of his energy levels and his stats are really good, he creates a lot of chances scores as well.”
Thornton: Southgate has been watching Leeds winger Harrison this term
England do need a winger. While the Three Lions boast plenty of wingers that are more than capable of cutting inside and playing as a no.10, Harrison offers a different style of play. More of an old-fashioned winger that keeps his width.
He sits on the byline and looks to go past the full-back before getting a cross into the box. Perhaps, Harrison’s style is a bit of a niche talent that England need to have a look at during the international break before this winter’s World Cup.
