Should Manchester United make a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane in the summer transfer window?

Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ last Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, March 11, 2017) that Harry Kane can replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Manchester United.

Ibrahimovic has been in stunning form for United this season following his move in the summer of 2016.

The Swedish striker, who joined the Red Devils on a free transfer following his departure of Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2015-16 season, has scored 15 goals and provided four assists in the league so far this campaign.

Tottenham striker Kane is also playing well at the moment. The England international has scored 19 goals and provided four assists in the Premier League for Spurs so far this season.

Ibrahimovic’s current contract with United runs out at the end of the season, and no new deal is in place at the moment.

Given the progress of Kane over the past three or so years, United could be looking at the striker as a long-term replacement for the 35-year-old.

Former Arsenal attacker Merson believes that Kane can replace Ibrahimovic at Old Trafford, and does not believe that the 23-year-old will stay Spurs for long.

“Yeah, definitely,” said Merson on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ last Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, March 11, 2017) when asked if Kane can replace Ibrahimovic at United.

“There is no question. I feel he will be well sought-after. He would have to stay in the Premier League, but the way he is going, the way he is playing – and he is getting better and better every week when I watch him – I don’t see him at Tottenham a long time.”
