Sky Sports pundits expect difficult season for Newcastle

Sky Sports pundits are predicting a difficult season for Newcastle.

Newcastle United are going through a tough period at the moment, with Rafa Benitez’s side having failed to win in their last six Premier League games.

In fact, the Magpies have won only once in their last 10 Premier League games. As a result of this sliding form, they find themselves 15^th in the league, five points above the drop zone.

With the uncertainty in club takeover making headlines every now and then, and no concrete idea of how much Benitez will be given to spend in the January transfer window, it could be a very difficult season for the Magpies.

According to former Newcastle manager and now Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness, it could get very difficult for the Magpies if they somehow get stuck into the danger zone.

He adds that if Benitez wants to improve the side, and that can only happen if he brings in quality players. And that will be only possible if the takeover happens.

“It’s going to be very, very difficult for them,” said Souness on Sky Sports (dated 02/12/2017; h/t The Chronicle)

“If they get sucked in to the danger zone then it becomes difficult for those players to play with the pressure from the supporters. They’ve got to be big and expect to be playing under that pressure if you’re at a big football club.

“I expect it’s going to be difficult for them, but not impossible. You’ve got a manager there who’s always talking about wanting to improve what he’s got. That’s not unusual, but we know he wants better players.

“That’s not going to change if the takeover doesn’t happen. It’ll be a difficult six months for Newcastle as I see it.”

Another popular football pundit Jamie Redknapp echoes Souness, saying in December they have key fixtures against Everton, Brighton and West Ham and those are the games they should be looking at to pick up points.

“I agree with Graeme. I think it’s going to be a tough one,” said Redknapp on Sky Sports (dated 02/12/2017; h/t The Chronicle)

“In December there’s three key games against Everton, Brighton and West Ham and those are the ones you’re looking and thinking they need to pick up points. If they could get back-to-back wins that would really change it.

“At the moment, other teams are starting to pick up points – Palace, for example – so that’s what Newcastle have got to do.”
