Everton are expected to make vast improvements in the Premier League this season.
Ronald Koeman has spent heavily on acquiring new talent at Everton so far this summer, laying out well in excess of £100 million on seven new faces, but at the same time, the Dutchman has lost his main goal threat in Romelu Lukaku.
Many fans and pundits alike are predicting the Blues to make a sustained push for the top four this season, on the back of their impressive transfer business.
Nicholas, however, isn’t one of them, and suggested that Everton are still not good enough to force their way into the mix for the top six, when writing his column for Sky Sports:
“Seventh. There’s still too many questions for me and while they may close the gap on the top six, I don’t see how they will be better than any of them.”
Koeman’s side finished in seventh position last season, eight points adrift of sixth placed Manchester United, and 14 points behind fifth placed Arsenal.
And after this summer’s transfer activity, anywhere outside the top six in the table this term will surely be considered as a failure for Everton.
In what will surely be the most competitive Premier League campaign since its’ inception in 1992, however, the Toffees will certainly have their work cut-out if they are to improve upon last season’s efforts.
