West Ham United are reportedly locked in talks to sign the Russian skipper.
Kevin Campbell was a guest on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily programme on Tuesday January 30th, and raved about the quality of reported Hammers target Fyodor Smolov, suggesting that the Russian will be an upgrade on what David Moyes already has available to him.
Sky Sports reported yesterday that West Ham were locked in talks with Krasnodar over the possibility of bringing the 27-year-old to east London on a loan deal with an option to buy, but the Russian outfit would prefer to sell him permanently for £12 million.
The Hammers are currently far from safe in the Premier League, despite the fact that they sit in 11th position in the table, with just four points separating themselves and 18th placed Southampton.
With Diafra Sako already gone, Andre Ayew linked with an exit and Andy Carroll currently out injured, David Moyes will be desperate to bolster his attacking ranks before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, and Campbell believes that Smolov could make a huge difference to the Scot’s side.
The 47-year-old was a guest on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily Programme on Tuesday January 30th, and urged West Ham to get a deal for the Russian over the line:
“West Ham need more options up front. It’s been difficult for David Moyes, the balance of the squad isn’t quite right. They need to bring in more quality, and Smolov is a very good player. Hopefully he will upgrade the squad.”
With just 30 hours remaining until the transfer window slams shut, the Hammers will have to get down to business quickly, if they are to complete the signing of Smolov.
