Tottenham Hotspur were incredibly disappointing against Manchester United yesterday.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp did not hold back in his criticism of Spurs, in the aftermath of their defeat to Manchester United yesterday, suggesting that they lack personality in big games, when speaking live on Sky Sports‘ live broadcast of the game.

Tottenham lacked any kind of cutting edge or creativity in the final third, but perhaps more worryingly for Pochettino, they did not display their usual vigour and intensity of play that they usually exert every time they step out on the pitch.

The Lilywhites now sit eight points adrift of league leaders Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title, and some might argue that they are already too far behind Pep Guardiola’s men.

And Redknapp, who made 49 appearances for Spurs, tore into Pochettino’s side, when speaking live on Sky Sports, highlighting the need for them to take the game to their opponents more during big matches:

“They were a little bit ‘tippy-tappy’ at times. There were times when they could have got a the United back four, but elected to go back and play safe. I still feel they haven’t got the personality to win these types of games yet. When Spurs play with Harry Kane it’s a different proposition altogether. But you’re missing the point if you think Kane’s absence is the problem. This has been a feature in so many of Spurs’ games against the top six. There are so many games where he (Kane) has played, and Spurs lack the personality that I’m talking about.”

Next up for Tottenham is a visit from Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night, before they play host to Crystal Palace in the Premier League the following Sunday, and Pochettino’s men will have to quickly put the disappointment of yesterday’s defeat behind them, if they want to head into the international break full of confidence.
