Speaking live on Sky Sports Now at 11:38 am on December 2nd, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp offered high praise for Southampton, and suggested that they have one of the best centre-back partnerships in the Premier League.
The Saints are beginning to play with an identity that resembles Claude Puel’s philosophy and beliefs, and were magnificent in midweek as they beat Arsenal at the Emirates in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup.

Southampton currently boast the joint third best defensive record in the league, which is quite an achievement for a side who are currently in 10th position in the table.
And Redknapp told Sky Sports Now how their centre-back pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Jose Fonte is as good as any n the Premier League:
“What I really like is they have got people who know how to defend. I’m a big fan of Van Dijk, and I think with Fonte, that partnership is as good as any in the Premier League.”

Puel’s men head to London to take on Crystal Palace tomorrow, who are in dire need of a victory after losing six consecutive league games.
The Saints themselves will be just as determined to take all thee points from the game, knowing that a win could take them as high as seventh in the table.
