Jamie Redknapp has suggested on Sky Sports, during their live coverage of Everton’s League Cup match with Fleetwood Town, that Alex Iwobi has been let down by some of his teammates at Goodison Park.

Iwobi joined Everton last summer, but he has struggled to make much of an impact on Merseyside.

The former Arsenal man now seems to have slipped down the pecking order, with Iwobi simply playing a covering role so far this term.

Iwobi did send a reminder of his ability last night though, as Everton picked up a 5-2 win over Fleetwood Town.

And Redknapp feels that Iwobi will look a much better player now that the players around him at Everton are more confident.

“It hasn’t quite worked out for him, but it’s difficult when you come into a team when you’re not full of confidence and the team isn’t playing well, it makes it very hard,” he said.

“When you come in and they’re playing like this you want to be part of it.

“He’s obviously got talent but sometimes he comes into the team and everyone is lacking confidence and nobody really wants the ball, but right now everyone is buzzing.”

Iwobi’s future at Everton has actually come into doubt recently.

The Daily Mirror have suggested that Everton could listen to offers for the Nigerian international this summer, as they look to cash in.

But if Iwobi can keep performing to the standard that he showed last night then the Toffees may well be more inclined to keep him around.
