Tottenham Hotspur signed Moussa Sissoko for £30 million on transfer deadline day.

Sky Sports pundit Niall Quinn has outlined how he believes that Moussa Sissoko’s disappointing start to life at Spurs has gone under the radar due to Paul Pogba’s struggles at Manchester United, when writing a column for Sky Sports.

The 27-year-old Frenchman made his £30 million dramatic deadline day move to White Hart Lane under a cloud of uncertainty, with Tottenham’s Premier League rivals Everton believing they had secured his signature, before Daniel Levy & Co made their move.

He has since gone on to make nine appearances for the north London outfit, but is yet to open his goalscoring account for the the club whilst also failing to register an assist.

Quinn wrote his column for Sky Sports and highlighted how Sissoko has probably lived up to half of what was expected from him from the Spurs management and hierarchy when they signed him:

“One of the best stories of the back end of summer was Moussa Sissoko. The fee of £30m was about double what Spurs generally like to pay for incoming players. His form so far has probably been about half what they expect. Generally though, Sissoko’s disappointing start goes under the radar because the best story of the summer was Paul Pogba’s return to Old Trafford. But even taking into account United’s win at Swansea, the jury must still be out on Pogba.”

The addition of Sissoko certainly strengthened the options available to Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, but it seems as though the Argentine is yet to find a position for the Frenchman that he can call his own.

There is a long way to go before the season is over, however, and Sissoko should be given time to prove that he is capable of playing for a side of Tottenham’s stature.
