Liverpool managed to beat Bayern Munich without being anywhere near their best on Wednesday.
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas suggested that Liverpool’s win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night could come at a cost, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports, claiming that Jürgen Klopp’s men were not actually that good at the Allianz Arena.
The Reds secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after beating Bayern 3-1 on aggregate, and they will now face Porto over two legs next month, with a great chance of making it into the semi-finals of the competition.
Liverpool have certainly not been anywhere near their best recently, having drawn five and won six of their last 11 outings in all competitions, but they still have a great chance of winning both the Premier League and Champions League.
And Nicholas told Sky Sports how the Reds’ poor performance against the Germans might prove to be costly, in the sense that it has actually papered over the cracks that have been appearing at the club recently:
“A fantastic result in Munich could come at a cost. Yes, you’re in the draw and you deserve to be there, but it wasn’t a good performance. Bayern were terrible, Liverpool were just a shade better.”
Liverpool face Fulham tomorrow, and nothing less than a comfortable win will do, as Klopp’s men look to make a big statement to Manchester City in the race for the Premier League table.
