Former West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland striker Don Goodman suggested on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, October 7, 2016) that he is at a loss to explain the current situation at Aston Villa.

Villa are playing in the Championship this season following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

The Villans are one of the biggest clubs in England and have quite a strong team, but they are struggling in the second tier of English football at the moment.

Villa are currently 19th in the Championship table with just 10 points from 11 matches, just two points above the relegation zone.

The former Premier League club are without a permanent manager at the moment following the recent dismissal of Roberto Di Matteo.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Goodman has suggested that he is confused as to what is wrong at Villa, while praising some of the signings that they made in the summer transfer window.

“I don’t know what’s gone wrong because you look at the calibre of players, you look at their signings – (Mile) Jedinak, Ross McCormack, Jonathan Kodjia, Tommy Elphick, these are good, solid (players),” said Goodman on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (broadcast from 10am, October 7, 2016).

“Three of them have won or been promoted from the Championship. So then you look at, is it a hangover? But then, there are so many new players. Should it be a hangover?”

Villa will take on Wolves at Villa Park in the Championship after the international break.
