Matt Le Tissier has told Sky Sports that Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand is a better left-back than his Tottenham Hotspur counterpart Danny Rose.

Bertrand and Rose are two of the best left-backs in the Premier League at the moment, and both have been included in England’s recent squad.

While the Tottenham left-back is the first choice for the Three Lions, Southampton legend Le Tissier believes that Bertrand is better than him.

The former Southampton attacking midfielder has picked Bertrand ahead of the Tottenham left-back in his England starting lineup for Saturday’s 2018 World Cup UEFA Group F qualifier against Malta at the Wembley Stadium in London.

“I think Cahill is a little bit out of sorts at the moment and Stones and Smalling deserve to be starting ahead of him, while I still think Bertrand is a better defender than Rose,” Le Tissier told Sky Sports.

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 17 points from seven matches, just a point behind leaders Manchester City.

Southampton are currently 10th in the standings with nine points from seven games, seven points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.

England are favourites to win against Malta on Saturday and should be able to pick up all three points at the Wembley Stadium London with ease.
