Jamie O’Hara has stated that he is ‘not convinced’ with Dominic Calvert-Lewin following his display during Everton’s narrow defeat to Tottenham on Monday night, as he told Sky Sports (06/07/20 at 9:50 pm).
Calvert-Lewin has been a much-improved player under Carlo Ancelotti, but the Everton striker was pretty poor on a night to forget for the Toffees yesterday – though he would point towards a serious lack of service.
Both teams looked mediocre at best, but Jose Mourinho’s men did enough to secure all three points with Giovani Lo Celso’s strike from inside the area deflecting off Michael Keane into the back of the net.
Everton’s attack looked blunt on the night, as former Spurs midfielder, O’Hara, shared how their key players just didn’t turn up and was first asked what he thought about Calvert-Lewin’s performance.
“Not convinced,” O’Hara told Sky Sports. “It’s tough conditions without the fans and really getting that off, Everton are a team for me who rely on fans.
“He [Calvert-Lewin] hasn’t been great. He has played on the cusp of the game. I have not been overly excited about what he has done. There have been a few nice touches.
“Richarlison, who I really like, has been poor. Sigurdsson got dragged off. Ancelotti had seen enough of him. The sort of star players for Everton tonight have been nowhere near it.”
Prior to lockdown, Calvert-Lewin was flying for Everton and was even being tipped for a potential England call.
That still might happen in the future, if he continues finding the back of the net, but he has some serious competition ahead of him.
Whilst Calvert-Lewin had an off night yesterday, the Everton faithful may point their fingers elsewhere at the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Alex Iwobi, who are offering next to nothing for their team.
