Tottenham Hotspur will face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
Former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas has predicted on Skysports.com that Tottenham Hotspur will fail to win against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday evening.
Tottenham will take on Bayer at the Wembley Stadium in London in Champions League Group E.
The Premier League outfit are second in the group with four points from three matches. Mauricio Pochettino’s side are a point ahead of third-placed Bayer and a point behind leaders AS Monaco.
Former Arsenal forward Nicholas believes that Spurs will fail to win against Bundesliga club Bayer on Wednesday evening.
The former Scotland international has predicted the match to end in a 1-1 draw. Nicholas believes that former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez will score the opening goal of the game and has backed Harry Kane to equalise for Tottenham.
“Another draw isn’t much help for them,” Nicholas wrote on Skysports.com. “You want to be going into the last two games in a qualification position because they’ve got a tough trip to Monaco next.
“They can’t be worrying about the north London derby right now because this is a huge game, but I would be amazed if Mauricio Pochettino was to throw Kane straight in from the start. You can’t rush players back after six weeks out.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see him coming off the bench to save Spurs, who could be set for another stalemate.”
A footnote added: “Charlie predicts: 1-1 and Javier Hernandez to score first.”
While Nicholas’s prediction about Hernandez scoring the opening goal of the match could come true, it seems that his backing of Kane was premature.
As reported by Sky Sports on Tuesday, Tottenham manager Pochettino has said that the England international striker will not feature against Bayer despite returning to training.
