Could Tottenham Hotspur rest some of their key players in upcoming Europa League and FA Cup games?
Tottenham Hotspur are facing a dilemma. There are no fewer than three cup games coming up for Tottenham. Should Spurs take them seriously and field their strongest available lineup?
The North London outfit will face KAA Gent away from home at the KAA Gent Stadium in the first leg of the Europa League round of 32 tie on Thursday evening.
Then on Sunday afternoon, Spurs will take on Championship club Fulham away from home at Craven Cottage in the fifth round of the FA Cup before locking horns with Gent at White Hart Lane in the second leg.
Tottenham are going strong in the Premier League at the moment and are genuine contenders for a top-four finish. With a little bit of luck, they could even close the gap on leaders and London rivals Chelsea.
The question is whether Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino should deployed his best players against Gent and Fulham. According to Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier, Pochettino should not.
“I think there will probably be an extended break for a lot of those players during that period of time, I really do, and that would be good management looking at it,” said Le Tissier on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ last Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, February 11).
Tottenham’s next Premier League game is against Stoke City at White Hart Lane on February 26.
