Leeds United have faltered in recent weeks, whilst Sheffield Wednesday have gone from strength to strength.
Sky Sports pundit Tony Gale
Tony Gale explained how both the Owls and the Whites will battle it out for the sixth and final play-off spot, whilst backing Fulham to finish fifth, during an appearance on Sky Sports‘ Premier League Daily programme on Tuesday April 18th.
Garry Monk’s Leeds side slipped out of the top six yesterday, after defeat at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, whilst Carlos Carvalhal’s men jumped up to fifth spot after their impressive 2-1 win at Queens Park Rangers.
Fulham are currently sandwich between the pair in sixth spot, and Gale believes that the Cottagers will move up a position by the end of the season, leaving the Yorkshire teams to battle it out for the remaining play-off spot.
The former West Ham United and Fulham centre-back told Sky Sports:
“I can see Fulham finishing there (inside the top-six), so that final spot will be between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds, and I’m going with Leeds.”
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
The West Yorkshire outfit’s last three games consist of a home game against Norwich City, sandwiched by trips to Burton Albion and Wigan Athletic respectively.
Wednesday, on the other hand, face a much tougher looking run-in, with a home game against Derby County, followed by a trip to Ipswich Town, before they welcome fellow promotion chasers Fulham to Hillsborough on the final day of the season.
There is still all to play for, and the Championship has lived up to its’ unpredictable nature to the very maximum this season.
And it’s a shame that one team from Sheffield Wednesday, Fulham and Leeds will have to miss out on the circus of the play-offs.
