Everton have struggled in all competitions over the past few months.
Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily at 10:33 am on January 10th, ex-Everton star Tony Cottee discussed his former club’s season so far, and admitted his concern at the direction they are currently heading in.
The Toffees begun their Premier League campaign in fine fashion, but have struggled over the last couple of months, after getting knocked out of both cup competitions, and winning just four of their last 15 league games.
And Cottee, who made 241 appearances for the Blues, explained how his former club’s season so far will have been extremely disappointing for their fans, when speaking live on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily:
Everton manager Ronald Koeman
“I can’t quite get my head around where they’re going at the moment. What a hugely disappointing result to get knocked out of the FA Cup by Leicester, and they lost in the League Cup at home to Norwich. Getting knocked out of the cup competitions so early doesn’t go down well with the Evertonions. So the target for the rest of the season must be now to bridge the gap between sixth and seventh position, which won’t be easy.”
Everton manager Ronald Koeman
Koeman arrived at Goodison Park in the summer, charged with taking Everton forward, but he has so far failed to live up to the high expectations of Toffees fans.
His main challenge over the next two transfer windows will undoubtedly be to lower the average age of his first-team squad, without compromising on quality.
Whilst that is easier said than done, it will be a necessity, if the Blues are to move forward from the days under Roberto Martinez.
