Much is expected Everton this season, following their impressive transfer activity thus far.

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas suggested that the Toffees are not aggressive enough, and will struggle against the better sides in the Premier League this season, when writing his column for Sky Sports.

Much is expected of Everton this term, after Ronald Koeman has confidently gone about overhauling his squad at Goodison Park, spending well in excess of £100 million in the process.

Ronald Koeman the Everton manager looks on during the Premier League match between Swansea City and Everton at the Liberty Stadium on May 6, 2017 in Swansea, Wales.

Nicholas though, explained why he thinks the Dutchman has missed a trick this summer in failing to recruit an aggressive type of player, when writing his column for Sky Sports:

“They’re not as aggressive as they used to be, with the likes of Phil Jagielka and Gareth Barry really committed and aggressive. You don’t need kickers but they need to step up and be aggressive when they come up against the better sides.”

Despite the fact the Barry and Jagielka are still part of the Toffees setup, they are a combined age of 70, and Everton will surely have to look into the possibility of replacing them both with younger models who possess similar qualities over the coming year or so.

This season will certainly be a challenging one for the Merseyside outfit, and it will be interesting to see if Nicholas’ observation regarding Everton’s lack of aggression proves costly for them come what May next year.

And if Koeman fails to guide his side to a top six finish, there will surely be serious questions asked of the Dutchman’s acumen in the transfer market.
