Could Everton be busy in the January transfer window?

Former Celtic and Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, November 19, 2016) that Everton need to sign a defender and a goalkeeper in the January transfer window.
“I think he would probably look for another defender,” said Nicholas on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, November 19, 2016) when asked where Everton need to strengthen. “He would look for another goalkeeper.”
Everton made a good start to the season, but the Toffees’ recent form in the Premier League has not been great.
The Merseyside outfit are conceding more goals than they should at the moment, and earlier this month they were hammered 5-0 by Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in the league.

The Toffees signed defender Ashley Williams from Premier League rivals Swansea City in the summer transfer window.
While defensively Everton do need to improve, perhaps manager Ronald Koeman can work with the players he has got in the department for the rest of the season.
Maarten Stekelenburg is the first-choice goalkeeper at Everton at the moment.
Given that Stekelenburg is 34 years of age, the Toffees would be wise to get a younger replacement ready, but the problem is that they are not going to get a brilliant custodian in January.
