Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the latter stages of the Europa League by finishing third in their Champions League group.

Speaking live on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday programme at 13:16, Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier offered his opinion on Spurs’ participation in the Europa League, and insisted that is a good thing for the club.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have struggled over this past two months, and have had to endure heavy criticism after falling seven points behind league leaders Chelsea, and crashing out of the Champions League.

They do seem to have got their season back on track, however, after a 5-0 win over Swansea City last weekend, and a mid-week victory at home to CSKA Moscow in their final Champions League group game.

And Le Tissier told Sky Sports how he believes their impending participation in the Europa League is a good thing for Tottenham:

“I think it’s a good thing, because I think they are one of the better teams in it, and they can get themselves back into the Champions League through winning it. They’re not guaranteed a top four finish, there are some good teams there and they need to keep as many options open as they can to try and get Champions League football again for next season. I think it was right that they tried to get into the Europa League.”

With Pochettino’s men currently three points adrift of the top-four, and with a tricky game away at Manchester United tomorrow, the Europa League could very well be their best chance to qualify for Europe’s premier competition next season.

There is still a long way to go in the season though, and with a win tomorrow, Tottenham will announce themselves to the league once again as genuine title contenders.
