Leeds United were beaten 3-1 at Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Cardiff City and Leeds United at Cardiff City Stadium on September 26, 2017 in Cardiff, Wales.

Pundit David Prutton has told Sky Sports (26/09/2017) that he felt Thomas Christiansen’s team selection was a major reason for Leeds United’s 3-1 defeat at Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

Leeds travelled to South Wales on Tuesday in search of another three points having beaten Ipswich Town 3-2 on Saturday afternoon, a strong bounce back having lost their previous league game 1-0 at Millwall.

However, it was another away day disappointment for Leeds, and their 3-1 defeat at Cardiff started with Kenneth Zohore tapping home from close range after a superb run and cutback from Junior Hoilett.

Hoilett then made it 2-0 with a fine long-range strike, before Liam Cooper was sent off for two yellow cards to compound Leeds’ first-half misery.

Zohore added a third after the break after a flowing passing move, and whilst Kemar Roofe did give Leeds a consolation goal with a deflected effort, it proved to be a dismal night for Thomas Christiansen.

Leeds have now been leapfrogged by Cardiff at the top of the Championship table, and many feel that Christiansen simply got his team selection wrong, having left Samu Saiz and Pierre-Michel Lasogga on the bench.

Pundit and former David Prutton offered his view on Sky Sports (26/09/2017) after the final whistle, and he agreed with the idea that Christiansen’s team selection ultimately cost Leeds at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Prutton felt that Leeds needed more physicality, particularly in attack, where Kemar Roofe was somewhat outmatched by the Cardiff defence – and will highlight the decision to leave out target man Lasogga.

“I thought with the way he set his team up, Leeds needed more of a physical presence,” said Prutton. “Going forward in the first half, as good as Roofe is, you need players up to get around him,” he added.
