Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester United defender Danny Higginbotham wants Leeds United back in the Premier League.

Leeds have made a great start to life under Marcelo Bielsa, losing just once in the opening 12 games to sit third in the Championship, two points off top.

Leeds fans are dreaming of a long-awaited return to the Premier League after 15 years away and hope their maverick Argentine boss will be the man to deliver it.

Many pundits, supporters and even rival fans believe Leeds belong in the top flight.

The fierce rivalry the Elland Road club enjoyed with several of their opposing clubs in the Premier League years created a great spectacle, most notably against Manchester United.

But promotion back to the promised land is a right that has to be earned.

Sky Sports pundit Danny Higginbotham may have started out with Leeds’ bitter rivals and boyhood club Manchester United but he told The Debate he hopes and believes the Whites can finally achieve promotion this season.

And he can’t wait for the Leeds vs Man United rivalry to be renewed.

“Growing up as a (Manchester) United fan the rivalry with Leeds was absolutely massive, it would be huge, it would be brilliant, and I don’t support Leeds United,” Higginbotham told The Debate.

“For the Premier League they’ve been away far too long, Leeds have been away for a long time now (but) Bielsa is doing a fantastic job and it would be great to see them back in the Premier League no doubt.

“There’d be no love lost between the two sets of supporters (Leeds and Manchester United), no doubt about it.

“There’s fierce rivalry between the two so no doubt about it whatsoever that rivalry will just start right back up again.

“I think they’ve got a fantastic opportunity. Bielsa has had a great start… a lot of people talk about December, January time that’s when it becomes a little more difficult (owing to his taxing style of play)… but if he can bring players in January then there’s every opportunity.”
