Paul Merson compared Patrick Bamford to Premier League legend Thierry Henry on Sky Sports News (19/09//20 at 4:20/5:10 pm) for the manner in which he scored during Leeds United’s 4-3 win against Fulham on Saturday.

For the second league game running, Bamford found the back of the net, but this time around, the previously criticised striker’s finish was compared with that of Henry’s.

Bamford would constantly find himself in the limelight in the Championship because of the high number of clear-cut chances he would miss for his side, but it’s not the case now.

Added with Merson’s praise for Bamford, he did express some serious ‘worry’ in Leeds’ defending and he thinks a much better team would pick them off for ‘fun’.

“A bit like Henry he’s at the angle, he just runs onto it and bends it around the keeper,” Merson told Sky Sports. “He gets all his angles wrong the goalkeeper. It’s a great ball. A great touch and he just finishes it.

“It’s two in two for Bamford – he opens his body up real Thierry Henry like and rolls it into the far corner.

“They seem so fit. You here Mourinho say, ‘we don’t seem fit enough’. These look really fit – but I do worry for them still. If they were playing against a top draw team today, with better forwards, I don’t see how they don’t get picked off for fun. But love watching them.”

Conceding six goals in your first two Premier League matches isn’t ideal, but Leeds will point towards the fact that they have three points on the board.

That’s the key for Marcelo Bielsa’s side because if they can rack up the points then their fans won’t care how many goals they are conceding.

But if they finish games empty-handed and start hovering above the relegation zone after 10+ games then their confidence levels and mental strength will be severely tested.
