Paul Robinson has stated that ‘Bielsa-ball’ is ‘being seen at Huddersfield’ with Carlos Corberan trying to emulate what he learnt at Leeds with Marcelo Bielsa.
The former goalkeeper shared on the Football Show on Sky Sports (28/10/20 at 11:45 am) that it proves how highly-regarded Leeds United’s Godfather-like figure is.
Bielsa is perhaps the most demanding coach in world football and it’s that 100 miles per hour mindset which makes like difficult for opponents, but it’s not easy to coach.
Corberan is finding out just that, at this moment in time, but Robinson shared how a certain ‘type of character’ is needed to be successful with such a demanding and ‘proven’ style.
“Yes, he has got them playing a certain way hasn’t he,” said Robinson. “He’s learnt from one of the best coaches in world football. We have seen Pochettino and Pep Guardiola speak in such high regard about Marcelo Bielsa and what they think.
“For his assistance to go out now and to be doing the same thing. He is putting a high demand on his players. The phrase ‘Bielsa-ball’ is being seen at Huddersfield.
“But it’s how you put that across to your players. The demands Marcelo Bielsa puts on his players at Leeds is incredible. He runs them hard and he works them hard. He has got a rapport with his players where they turn around and say ‘that’s what we would do and that’s what he wants’.
“There has to be a certain type of character of how you put that across to your players and how you sell that to your players. The biggest thing is the results. If he can do that at Huddersfield then it’s certainly a style, it’s certainly a proven way that works.”

Corberan was part of Bielsa’s backroom staff for three years, as well as working with Leeds United’s U-23’s before he was snapped up by the Terriers in the summer.
At this moment in time, Huddersfield are finding life difficult as a defeat to Birmingham last night left them 16th in the table, but a clear change of style can be seen.
It’s just a case of the players having the fitness levels to cope and then implement the gung-ho and eagle-eyed tactics which are being put to them.
But, at the end of the day, nothing beats getting coached by Bielsa himself.
