Well, it looks like Newcastle United are on the brink of signing a wonderkid.

Earlier this week, Sky Sports reported that United were set to win the race to sign highly-rated youngster Garang Kuol in what would be a £300,000 deal.

The 18-year-old had been linked to Celtic but it would appear as if Newcastle will be bringing him to St James’s Park.

Kuol’s stock has risen immensely recently after winning his first cap for Australia and the Central Coast Mariners sensation could even make his country’s World Cup squad.

He won’t be going straight into Newcastle’s senior side, but this is a very exciting deal nonetheless – and even more exciting based on what Keith Downie has revealed about him.

According to the Sky Sports man, he has been personally told about just how good this player is.

He told Give Me Sport: “I actually know a couple of the lads over there who play alongside him. They say this guy is a really, really, really good player. As well as the top talent Newcastle are looking at, they want to bring in young players.”

Kuol, who only turned 18 on September 15, has already netted four A-League goals this season.

Say what you like about the standard in Australia’s top flight, and yes obviously Newcastle and the Premier League is a different kettle of fish entirely.

But to be competing so well in men’s football after only turning 18 is testament to his potential and the Magpies will certainly believe that they can take him to the next level.
