Sky Sports commentator Gary Weaver claimed on Tuesday night during Preston’s 1-1 draw with Burnley that Leeds United and Victor Orta are keeping tabs on Preston boss Ryan Lowe – and is on the list to replace Jesse Marsch.

Marsch has made a solid start to life at Leeds. Filling the big shoes of Marcelo Bielsa, the odds were always going to be stacked against Marsch – but he kept Leeds up and has made a good start to this Premier League campaign.

Indeed, eight points from six games including a 3-0 win over Chelsea is not bad. There are no qualms over the future of the Leeds manager and his job looks very safe. However, as all clubs do these days, Leeds are planning just in case.

Like Brighton have experienced, your manager can be gone within a couple of days. Football is always changing. So, having a contingency plan in place is crucial and Leeds are clearly doing so in terms of Marsch replacements.

Weaver claimed during his commentary that 43-year-old Preston boss Lowe has admirers at Leeds – in Orta. If Marsch does depart, whenever that may be, it seems as though Lowe might be one of those considered by the Spaniard.

“He does have an attacking brand of football. A big fan of his is Victor Orta, at Leeds United, he’s taken some interest in what Ryan Lowe does, and he may be on a list of future Leeds managers,” Weaver said, as per Deepdale Digest.

Lowe is certainly a manager that favours playing an attacking system. Plenty of possession and what many perceive to be an attractive brand of football. There are similarities between Marsch, Bielsa and Lowe’s style of play.

He enjoyed a wonderful spell at Plymouth, winning 55 of his 128 games. Promotion too – as he did at Bury. He is more than deserving to have got himself a job in the Championship with Preston. But his numbers have not been as good.

Just 13 wins in 35 so far. If Lowe can turn it around and improve that number, then there is no reason why – at some point in the future – he could get himself in the Premier League. Leeds, perhaps.
