Sky reporter shares what Kevin Keegan told him before Newcastle takeover was completed

Pete Greaves has shared that Kevin Keegan told him that he was ‘praying’ the Newcastle takeover would go through before it was completed on Thursday evening, as he told Sky Sports News (07/10/21 at 5:45 pm).

The Sky reporter shared that he spoke to both Keegan and Alan Shearer last night and they were just ‘willing’ for everything to go right.

And go right it has because the Magpies are no longer under the stewardship of Mike Ashley, but a Saudi-based group.

It’s like the Newcastle fans have landed the double jackpot because they would have done anything just to get rid of Ashley.

But not only is the English businessman out of the door, they are now also the richest club in the world, with owners much wealthier than those from Manchester City.

This is what Greaves said regarding his conversations with Keegan.

“I am just looking through my phone,” said Greaves. “I have just seen the reaction, when we announced that it was done, the reaction outside of St James’ Park.

“They were celebrating like Newcastle had just won the Champions League. It was a huge outpouring of emotion.

“The likes of Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan, I have been in touch with both of them in the last 24 hours. Everyone just willing for this to go through.

“Alan Shearer has just tweeted similar words ‘we have got our football club back’. Last night, Kevin Keegan, I hope he doesn’t mind me saying this, but hoping and praying that this was going to go through.”

It has been an emotional ride for the Newcastle fans, and if they had their wish, they would probably replace Keegan for Steve Bruce right now and see out the season.

Whilst the Toon Army faithful are in party mode, they need to understand that they are sitting in the Premier League’s relegation zone.

And that has to be their priority from the get-go because the last thing they want is to drop down to the Championship.

That would be an utter disaster, but in order to prevent that from happening, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Steve Bruce is sacked by the time the Tottenham game comes about.
