Sky reporter, Kaveh Solhekol, pointed out on Sky Sports News on Tuesday evening that Arsenal were the ‘only club’ to apologise in their statements about leaving the European Super League.
From protests outside of Stamford Bridge to high-profile board members resigning, and statements being put out left, right and centre, it was a night to remember for English football.
All six English clubs announced late last night that they are withdrawing from the proposed ESL, which was condemned by 99% of the footballing world.
Arsenal put out a Twitter message saying that they ‘made a mistake’ and they ‘apologise for it’.
And Sky reporter, Solhekol, shared his thoughts on the matter as it was unfolding last night.
“Significant, I think, as you mentioned, that Arsenal are the only club in their statement to have apologised,” said Solhekol.
“They have actually come out and said ‘we made a mistake and we are sorry’. I think privately, people at Chelsea have acknowledged that they have made a mistake and they are going to learn from this.
“But this is not going to be enough, just releasing a statement. Not putting a face out to the public. Not giving any interviews and being ashamed of the plans that they cooked up behind closed doors.
“It’s not enough to release a statement. It’s not enough for fans, for people in the Premier League, in the football association, in UEFA, in FIFA and also the other 14 clubs.”

Whilst the owners and board members of the six English clubs have seen sense, the actual concept of the European Super League is still standing, with AC Milan being the only non-English side to pull out.
But this surely is the end of the road for many, if not all, of these owners and board members because they will struggle to survive such a car-crash experience.
At Arsenal, for instance, Stan Kroenke, has never been a liked figure, so all of this adds extra fire to the kitchen full of supporters who want the American to sell up.
