Paul Gilmour spoke on Sky Sports News (30/06/21 at 9:10 pm) that Dele Alli has been ‘working hard’ on his fitness this summer ahead of the new season with Tottenham.
The Sky journalist shared how Tottenham’s new boss, Nuno Espirito Santo, has to try and ‘bring him back to form’ after he was appointed as the club’s new boss.
During the latter stages of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign and under Jose Mourinho, Alli’s career in Spurs colours went down the drain.
The player that was scoring close to 20 goals from midfield, including ridiculous volleys away at Crystal Palace, became a shadow of the talent many thought was going to rip it up for years to come.
But, Nuno now faces a big task in getting the attack-minded midfielder back to form after a difficult time in North London.
“Harry Kane is right up there on the in-tray,” said Gilmour. “Dele Alli trying to bring him back to form.
“Dele Alli has been working hard this summer on his fitness – it will be finding that right balance.
“Yes, play attacking football but with a defensive structure.”

The first thing Alli will want is to be provided with a chance to showcase how good he is because, from his perspective, he would have felt that he didn’t earn the game time he deserved last season.
If Alli is in a situation where he fails to convince supporters that he can turn his form around then those in the Tottenham boardroom will begin to worry.
The England international’s form didn’t tail off when Mourinho arrived, it was already at a problematic stage when the Portuguese joined, it just got worse as the months passed with him.
But just like Matt Doherty might find, a new face in the dugout might just do him the world of good because many in that team need it.
