Keith Downie has claimed that Newcastle fans are ‘just essentially running around the stadium’ at St James’ Park after Newcastle’s takeover was completed, as he told Sky Sports News (07/10/21 at 5:45 pm)
The Sky reporter shared that there were ‘hundreds of Newcastle supporters’ outside the stadium in full voice after a Saudi-led group replaced Mike Ashley as owner on Thursday evening.
Those celebrations will no doubt go long into the night and into next week because it has been a moment their fans have been waiting for since those first few years of Ashley’s reign.
There were two relegations suffered during Ashley’s time, with club run like it had no structure, forward-thinking ways, so it’s no surprise it ended up in some of the situations that they did.
But all of that will now be forgotten about, as this new Saudi-led group will be hoping to fire the club into space and beyond.
Nonetheless, this is what Downie had to say about Newcastle fans outside of SJP tonight.
“When I turned up here at 8 this morning, there were supporters queuing up at the ticket office to get tickets for that game (Tottenham),” said Downie.
“And that was before the takeover was through. That sort of sums up that situation.
“Just as I look over my right hand shoulder, sorry, you can probably hear in the background. What looks like hundreds of Newcastle supporters just essentially running around the stadium.”

Of course, Newcastle fans will look towards Manchester City and Chelsea as examples that they can now reach the top.
For the London-based club, the success came a lot quicker, whilst Man City’s engine really started motoring after four or so years.
But either way, the Toon Army faithful can finally dream and look forward to their club taking positive steps.
