‘Keep Kane’: Sky pundit urges Tottenham to sign ‘world-class’ £74m player amid Conte talk

Jamie O’Hara told Sky Sports News on Wednesday afternoon that he would like Tottenham to sign the ‘world-class’ Romelu Lukaku.

Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Spurs have held talks with Antonio Conte, who recently left Inter, to become their new manager.

Lukaku thrived under Conte’s stewardship in Italy, with the ex-Manchester United striker scoring 24 goals on Inter’s way to the Serie A title.

Now, with Conte potentially heading to Tottenham, O’Hara would like the highly demanding coach to bring Lukaku with him and even shared the dream scenario of the powerhouse playing alongside Harry Kane.

“I’d love for him to bring Lukaku and Lautaro Martínez with him,” said O’Hara. “That would be ideal.

“At the end of the day, it’s a massive re-build. The club needs a revamp. There is a lot of work to do. If you are a top player and Spurs say ‘we have signed Antonio Conte as manager’ then a lot of big players would want to sign for that club.

On Lukaku potentially being Kane replacement: “Absolutely. In my opinion, Lukaku is world-class. I think he was under-appreciated at Manchester United.

“He didn’t perform unbelievably well, but at Everton, he was awesome and at Inter this season, he has been one of the best strikers in the world – but Lukaku is something special. Try to keep Kane and get Lukaku as well.”

It would top off the summers of all summers if Tottenham started next season with Conte in the dugout and both Kane and Lukaku on their books.

But Tottenham fans will be well aware that’s highly-unlikely to happen.

Lukaku excelled during his time in the Premier League, mainly at West Brom and Everton.

And even though Manchester United sold him to Inter for £74 million in 2019 (BBC Sport), he has since proven that it was the wrong call on their part and he has taken his game to another level.

In truth, if Tottenham can start next season with Conte in the dugout and Kane still at the club then the under-fire and highly-criticised, Daniel Levy has done well.
