Tim Sherwood said on Sky Sports News (12:22pm, November 28, 2020) that he has been surprised by the impact that Liverpool winger Diogo Jota has made so far this season.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has been impressed by how Jota has played for Liverpool, and believes that the winger will be pinching himself that he is at the Merseyside club.
The 23-year-old Portugal international winger joined the defending Premier League champions from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020.
Sherwood said about Jota on Sky Sports News (12:22pm, November 28, 2020) when asked if he had imagined that the winger would make this impact at the Reds: “No. I understood that he was a very good player, had seen him at Wolves and he was great, but he has gone into a group of world-class players, and he has been outstanding himself.”
The Englishman added: “Going to the home of the champions, he must have have been pinching himself, thinking, ‘Can’t believe my luck I am going there. I am actually training day in day out and getting the opportunity to play a lot of minutes in a top team, the champions of the Premier League’.”
Immediate impact at Liverpool
Jota showed what he is capable of during his time at Wolves, but not many would have expected him to make an instant impact at Liverpool.
The attacking player is scoring goals and creating chances, and he is also starting matches and making a case for himself to play regularly even when Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are fit and available .
According to WhoScored, Jota has scored four goals in the Champions League and five goals in the Premier League for Jurgen Klopp’s side so far this season.
The winger could prove to be a key player in Liverpool’s quest to win the Premier League title again this season.
