Graeme Souness said on Sky Sports Premier League (6:48pm, January 31, 2021) that the contract situation of Georginio Wijnaldum is causing a headache for Liverpool.
The Liverpool legend, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, was impressed by the performance of Wijnaldum during the Reds’ win against West Ham United in the Premier League at the weekend.
Souness believes that it must be a dilemma for the defending Premier League champions trying to make a decision on the future of the 30-year-old midfielder.
The Dutchman is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season, and no new deal is in place at the moment.
Souness said about Wijnaldum on Sky Sports Premier League (6:48pm, January 31, 2021): “I know it must be a headache for the club to come to a decision given his age, he might want too long of a contract to come up to 33 maybe, but they’re gonna miss him if he should go.”

Big dilemma for Liverpool
Wijnaldum is a very important player for Liverpool and is a regular in the starting lineup.
According to WhoScored, the former Newcastle United star has made 19 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League, scoring two goals in the process.
The Dutchman has also made four starts and one substitute appearance in the Champions League for the Reds so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.
The importance of Wijnaldum right now cannot be undermined, but a long-term contract may not make much financial sense for Liverpool given that he is 30.
