Jamie Carragher has said that Thiago will join Liverpool, and believes that the Reds would have signed Timo Werner before he went to Chelsea, as quoted in The Telegraph.

The former Liverpool star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Thiago would be a good signing for the Reds.

Carragher has also predicted the Premier League champions to eventually secure the services of the central midfielder from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

The former England international defender has added that had the global health crisis not happened, then Liverpool would have signed 24-year-old Germany international striker Werner.

According to The Mirror in August and Bleacher Report in September, Liverpool are interested in signing Thiago from Bayern this summer.

Sky Sports reported in June that Liverpool wanted to sign Werner, but the striker eventually moved to Premier League rivals Chelsea from RB Leipzig.

Carragher told The Telegraph: “I think Liverpool would have signed Timo Werner if the situation was not as it is. I just hope they can get the Thiago Alcantara deal over the line. I think you trust Liverpool on transfers now.

“They are masters of the transfer market in terms of getting players for good fees and receiving big fees for their players. It may be a game being played with Thiago at the moment. It looks like someone they want, and they are playing the long game.

“He would be a good signing. But if he does come in, I think it will be towards the end of the transfer window and Liverpool trying to get him as cheap as possible.”

The Sky Sports pundit added: “I think the deal will happen.”

Thiago to Liverpool?

Thiago is one of the best central midfielders in the world, and the Spain international would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool.

The former Barcelona star will add guile and finesse to the Reds’ midfield, and would enhance their chances of winning the Premier League title again next season.
