The Mirror reported this week that Leeds are back in for Rangers winger Kent, as the Whites are not willing to pay £35 million to Udinese for Rodrigo De Paul.
The Times reported in August that the promoted Premier League club have had a bid of £10 million for the 23-year-old turned down, with Rangers manager Steven Gerrard himself confirming the offer, as quoted on talkSPORT in August.
Former Celtic striker Walker – who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports – believes that due to the economic situation in Scottish football, Rangers could be tempted to cash in on Kent if Leeds make another offer.
Walker told Sky Sports: “Similarly, Rangers’ Ryan Kent has been attracting interest from Premier League newcomers Leeds United. They’ve already had one bid knocked back, would anyone really be surprised if Rangers cashed in given the same scenario they are in with Celtic, namely, burning millions of pounds every month allied to a much-reduced income?
“If anything, Rangers’ need to generate serious money is greater than Celtic’s. It’s a fact that in the last set of accounts released by the Ibrox club, it told of a loss of over £11m in the last financial year despite generating £14m through their exciting Europa League run.”
Unlikely Rangers exit?
True, every player has his price, but it is hard to see Rangers sell Kent to Leeds in the summer transfer window.
The former Liverpool winger is one of the best players for the Gers, who are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title this season.
There is no time for Rangers to find a suitable replacement for Kent if they sell him now, and it does seem very, very likely indeed that the 23-year-old will be at Ibrox beyond the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, former Hibernian forward and PLZ Soccer pundit Tam McManus was impressed with the performance of Kent for Rangers in their 4-0 win against Willem II away from home in the Netherlands in the Europa League Qualifying Third Round tie on Thursday evening.
