Clinton Morrison has said on Racing Post that Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich is not playing in his best position at the moment.

The former Crystal Palace and Birmingham City forward, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Kalvin Phillips is the best holding midfielder in the current Leeds squad.

Morrison thinks that Klich is better playing in an advanced role in midfield, with the 30-year-old Poland international midfielder currently being deployed in a deeper position to compensate for the loss of Phillips due to injury.

The Republic of Ireland international forward said on Racing Post: “They have got a few injuries. Kalvin Phillips. When you have the best holding midfielder who is injured, now Klich is trying to do that job and he is better further forward. It is difficult.”

Mateusz Klich’s best position

Klich is an all-round midfielder, and while he does the defensive part of his game well, the Poland international is more suited to playing in the advanced role.

Phillips is arguably the best holding midfielder in the current Leeds team, and there is no player in the squad who can take his place.

With the England international injured at the moment, it is not easy for Leeds to play without him. When Phillips will be fully fit and available, Klich is likely to go back to playing in a more attacking role in midfield.

According to WhoScored, Klich has scored two goals and provided two assists in seven Premier League matches for Leeds so far this season.
