Darwin Nunez to Liverpool is bound to excite new teammate Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
At least, that’s the view of former Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique.
The Reds have signed the Uruguay international in a club-record £85 million transfer from Benfica.
Alexander-Arnold was the first to react to his arrival on Twitter, writing a cheeky ‘How can I assist you?’ post in reference to the fact he’ll be supplying Nunez with a lot of service from right-back next season and beyond.
The same is undoubtedly true of Robertson on the other flank, with the Liverpool full-backs two of the best in Europe after the duo produced a combined 34 assists across all competitions last term.
Darwin Nunez is much more of a natural number nine than Diogo Jota or Roberto Firmino, prompting suggestions that Jurgen Klopp could tinker with his system to accommodate the South American.
However, Enrique has told Sky Sports that everything is fine the way it is and believes the two Liverpool defenders will absolutely love playing with the new striker.
He told Sky Sports : “The only doubt about Darwin Nunez is about age wise and transfer fee wise. I don’t believe Liverpool are going to change too much. People have talked about changing the system but Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold will be happy having a player like Darwin Nunez there.”
Darwin Nunez’s arrival might lead to Klopp tweaking his formation at Liverpool, however.
According to South American football expert Tim Vickery, this signing ‘changes the template‘ at Anfield and it’ll be fascinating if it’s for the better or not.
Honestly speaking, Liverpool’s record of spending big money under Klopp is exceptional, with much more hits than misses.
And time will tell if Darwin Nunez proves a successful addition or not.
