The former Celtic striker – who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports – believes that the Glasgow giants could be tempted to cash in on the French striker this summer amid the economic problems in Scottish football.
The Scottish Sun reported on August 27 that Villa were among the clubs who scouted the French striker in the Scottish Premiership game between Dundee United and Celtic at Tannadice Park on August 22.
The Express & Star has claimed that Villa manager Dean Smith is ‘keen on adding another striker to his side’ before the summer transfer window closes next month.
Walker told Sky Sports: “Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard is clearly destined to eventually play in a bigger league. He was voted by the Scottish football writers as their Player of the Year last season and it was an easy call to make.
“He is an outstanding talent, capable of playing for a top-six club in the Premier League and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Celtic took money for him now given how much cash they are burning every month with very little coming in.”
Unlikely Celtic sale this summer
Edouard is a prolific goalscorer who will make Villa a better team, and at the age of 22 and having played for Paris Saint-Germain and Celtic, the Frenchman would not be daunted by the prospect of turning out in the Premier League and is ready to play in the English top flight.
However, the Frenchman is the number one striker for manager Neil Lennon, and it is hard to see the Hoops cash in on him now, especially as Celtic are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title for the 10th season in a row in 2020-21.
