Paul Merson has written in The Daily Star that Thomas Partey is “an unbelievable signing” for Arsenal, and the Sky Sports pundit is surprised that Manchester United or Manchester City did not sign him.
The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Partey is a better defensive midfielder than what City or United have at the moment.
The Gunners signed the 27-year-old Ghana international from Spanish club Atletico Madrid on summer transfer deadline day after paying his release clause of £45.3 million, as reported by BBC Sport.
Merson has also criticised Arsenal for making mascot Gunnersaurus redundant after 27 years, as reported by Goal.com.
Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “I like where Arsenal are going on the pitch. Mikel Arteta is doing really well. And Partey is an unbelievable signing.
“I don’t know why Manchester United or even Manchester City didn’t go for him. He’s better than what they’ve got.”
The Sky Sports pundit added: “Mesut Ozil has made Arsenal look absolutely stupid by offering to pay for Gunnersaurus to keep his job.
“But binning their mascot just shows how selfish and out of touch the people who run the club are these days. You cannot believe how angry I am about this. It is unbelievably shocking at the highest level.”
Good signing for Arsenal
Partey is a very good defensive midfielder who is at the top of his game and has vast experience.
The Ghana international was one of the better players in his position in La Liga and has also played in the Champions League.
The 27-year-old will make the Gunners better and stronger in the middle of the park and will add extra security to the defence.
