Clinton Morrison has hailed William Saliba’s impact at Arsenal and how important he is to their Premier League title push.

Last season, many felt if the 22-year-old didn’t get injured, then Mikel Arteta might have guided Arsenal to the title.

That’s why Clinton Morrison feels it’s paramount that Arsenal keep William Saliba fit for the duration of the campaign, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (26/12/23 at 12:55 pm).

The France international is being helped by the performances of Declan Rice in the middle of the park.

There has been a lot of spotlight on the England international this season and he has quickly become a firm fan favourite at the Emirates.

From his crucial goals against Manchester United, Chelsea and Luton Town, to his recent performance against Liverpool.

Declan Rice is proving to be the main guy for the Gunners, but Clinton Morrison suggested that William Saliba could prove to be even more important.

Keeping William Saliba injury-free at Arsenal

“We spoke about Declan Rice, he has been outstanding,” said Morrison. “But another player who has been outstanding and they have to keep fit is Saliba. Unbelievable.

“The partnership between him and Gabriel is brilliant. That is a protection (from Rice). But if they were to pick an injury to Saliba, then it’s a struggle. You are then looking at who could come in.”

Arsenal v West Ham United

Arsenal have the chance to return to the top of the Premier League table on Thursday night when they host London rivals, West Ham United.

The Hammers have already beaten their neighbours this season when they dispatched them in the League Cup at the London Stadium in November.

But given Arsenal’s home record, and the fact that Darwin Nunez-inspired Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have won their midweek games, then three points are a must here.

Especially given that West Ham is the highest-placed team they will be playing in the Premier League until Liverpool visits the Emirates in February.
