Paul Merson has suggested on Sky Sports that the agent of Aston Villa star and reported Tottenham Hotspur target Jack Grealish will want him to leave the club.

The former Arsenal and Villa star thinks that Grealish could end up staying at Villa Park beyond the summer.

The 24-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, is arguably the best player for Villa and played an important role in Dean Smith’s side not getting relegated from the Premier League this season.

The Daily Star reported in April that Tottenham, Everton and Manchester United want to sign Grealish in the summer transfer window.

Merson told Sky Sports when asked if Grealish will leave Villa this summer: “I’m not sure, I think he might still be there. This club suits him, he can play how he wants, he gets the ball.

“He’s the big fish in the little pond, everything goes through him, and it’s enjoyable for him. Of course, it is. He is going to touch the ball 100 times a game, in every single game.”

Merson added: “His agent will probably be going, ‘You know what, Jack, let’s move on. We are going to get this and that.’

“It’s not all about the money. You want to be playing football week in, week out. He is not assured of playing anywhere else.”

Tottenham Hotspur transfer this summer?

With Christian Eriksen leaving Tottenham for Inter Milan in the January transfer window, there is a place for a player of Grealish’s quality and creativity in the squad.

The 24-year-old scores goals, creates chances and helps out his team defensively, and he is at the right age to move to a bigger club and take his game to a high level.

However, with Villa looking for £80 million as transfer fee for Grealish, as reported by The Times, Spurs may not be able to afford him.
