Clinton Morrison thinks Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil is ‘misunderstood’, as he told the Transfer Show on Sky Sports.
It seems as though the end is near at Arsenal for Ozil, who could be heading for the Emirates exit door this month.
Whilst Mikel Arteta provided the most obvious sign to Ozil that he is no longer part of his plans in the summer, some Arsenal fans did hope that he could be reinstated into his side’s Premier League squad this month.
Former Crystal Palace striker Morrison shared that Ozil needs to play more and he would want him to stay, but he thinks he will be gone by the time the winter transfer window slams shut.
“Yes, sometimes I do feel Ozil is misunderstood,” said Morrison. “I know we have seen Mesut Ozil when Arsenal are playing and he is tweeting and he’s talking about the game.
“Is he doing that to upset Arsenal? I’m not sure. For me, personally, Mesut Ozil should be in and around that Arsenal squad. I think they have been missing him.
“I know they have been on a good run recently and Smith-Rowe and the youngsters have come in and they have been excellent. But if I am the manager there, I would be trying to get Ozil. If I am paying him that much money I want to see him do the business on the football pitch.
“The move [to Fenerbahce] suits everyone all-round. There is obviously a club also in MLS that has been interested. It depends on what Ozil wants to do. Me, personally I would love to see him stay. But I think he will go.”
In 2013, Ozil made a £42 million switch from Real Madrid [BBC Sport] and it’s fair to say that he lived up to expectations for most of the time even though it has ended in such a disappointing manner.
It seems as though a move to Turkey could be on the cards because Arsenal need to either get rid of him this month or play him.
Arsenal could save a lot of money with his sale and use it towards pressing manners, such as buying a creative player that they would actually use.
