Paul Merson has suggested in The Daily Star that Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez would suit Tottenham Hotspur right now.

The former Arsenal star has reiterated his stance that Tottenham striker Harry Kane does not fit head coach Jose Mourinho’s playing style.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that Wolves star Jimenez is the kind of striker that Mourinho likes.

As reported by The Mirror, Merson said last week that Kane will struggle to score goals under Mourinho, and the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager subsequently hit back at the Sky Sports pundit.

ESPN report in March of interest in 29-year-old Mexico international striker from Arsenal and Tottenham.

Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “Didier Drogba was perfect for Mourinho. You could get it up to him and he’d hold it. He would bully people. Be a focal point.

“Kane just wants to score goals. That’s all I was saying. He wants to win the Golden Boot. But Mourinho teams don’t make a shedload of chances.

“Someone like Raul Jimenez at Wolves suits Spurs right now more than Kane. That’s the kind of striker Mourinho likes.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Jimenez has made 30 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Wolves so far this season, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists in the process.

The striker – who cost Wolves £30 million in transfer fees, according to BBC Sport – scored three goals and provided three assists in seven Europa League games for the Wanderers this campaign, according to WhoScored.
