Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has said that Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse should not join David Moyes’s West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports Football (2:16pm, August 5, 2023) that James Ward-Prowse should stay at Southampton in the Championship rather than move to Premier League club West Ham United.

According to The Daily Star, West Ham are trying to sign Ward-Prowse from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

The Hammers have reported offered over £25 million for the English midfielder, but Southampton want £40 million for the £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) star.

Merson said, as transcribed by WestHamZone: “If I’m Ward-Prowse, you’re not gonna play for England.

“You’re not playing for England anymore in my opinion, he didn’t play last year, I don’t think he gets in the team again, so does he go ‘You know what? If everybody’s staying, I’ll stay’?

“You’re gonna go to West Ham, you’re talking about West Ham you’re not going to one of the top six.

“You go to West Ham you’re working on scraps. I mean you stay there, it’s a lovely season you’re winning every week everybody likes a winning team.

“I dropped down the league twice, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth, I loved it.”

James Ward-Prowse should consider West Ham United transfer

In our opinion, Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse should seriously consider a move to West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

West Ham are a big and established club in the Premier League who won the UEFA Europa Conference League last season.

The Hammers will play in the UEFA Europa League this season.

Southampton are playing in the Championship this season, and there is no guarantee that they will win promotion.

Ward-Prowse is 28 now and is at the top of his game.

The England international would be able to make an immediate impact at the Hammers.

If Ward-Prowse did well for the Hammers this season, then he could return to the England set-up.
