Harry Redknapp said on Sky Sports News (11:08pm, October 5, 2020) that he is surprised that Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur did not sign Manchester City central defender John Stones.

The former Tottenham manager raved about Stones, and believes that the England international is a very good defender.

Following the close of the summer transfer window on Monday night, Redknapp said that he is surprised that Arsenal, Chelsea or Tottenham did not sign the 26-year-old, who has fallen further down the pecking order at City following the signing of Ruben Dias.

Redknapp said on Sky Sports News (11:08pm, October 5, 2020): “I am surprised someone didn’t take him, you know, John Stones. I am a big fan of his. I know people got on his case a little bit. I though maybe a Chelsea or someone like that might have gone in for John Stones.

“I think he is a real player. I think someone got hold of him, got a bit of belief back into him, he has got all the tools. I like him personally. I thought someone like Arsenal, Chelsea, whoever, Tottenham.”

Links with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal

Both Arsenal and Tottenham were actually linked with Stones in the summer transfer window.

The Daily Mail reported on transfer deadline day on Monday that Tottenham had actually enquired about signing the centre-back on a loan deal with a view to making the move permanent for £20 million.

However, according to the report, the former Everton player decided to stay at City and fight for his place in Pep Guardiola’s team.

The Sun reported on August 22 that Arsenal wanted to sign Stones, and the report added that the player wanted to stay at the Etihad Stadium.
