Jamie Redknapp has suggested that Conor Coady has ‘had a mention’ as a potential signing for Newcastle in January, as he told Sky Sports (19/12/21 at 1:20 pm).

The Sky pundit added that he would make Jesse Lingard his ‘first’ signing for Newcastle when the transfer window re-opens next month.

All eyes will be on St James’ Park in January because the relegation-threatened club are going to be the talk of the town.

Given that the Magpies are now owned by a Saudi-led group, it’s obvious the road they are going to go down in order to stay in England’s top-flight.

Given their current situation, Redknapp shared what he would do next month for Newcastle amid all the talk about who they should bring in.

“They also have got to get goals as well,” said Redknapp. “You can’t just keep relying on Callum Wilson to get you the goals.

“That’s where if you look at the certain individuals that are getting mentioned. Jesse Lingard has had a shout.

“If I was Newcastle right now, then he would be my first signing. He’s out-of-contract in the summer, you will get him at a good price and he is the sort of player with a great mentality and goals in him.

“Conor Coady has had a mention, whether he would want to leave Wolves.”

The problem Eddie Howe will face when he knocks on the door of potential new signings is will those players join?

They aren’t exactly glowing in the Premier League table and the obvious is staring them and everybody else in the face.

But that hasn’t stopped the club from trying to bring Lingard up north next month, as reported by the Express.

Whilst Wolves captain Coady is another possible target for this defensively-weak Newcastle backline.
